At Christmas time I enjoy watching classic vintage Christmas movies. “Holiday Inn” also known as “White Christmas” staring Fred Astaire and Bing Crosby , being one of my favorites.
The iconic song from the movie was one of the most successful retro Christmas songs of all time.
Did you know it was filmed using fake snow ? And that fake snow was made from asbestos?
Remember those flocked vintage Christmas trees that were all the rage during the 50s and 60s ? Those too were made with white asbestos chrysotile.
Quite a few of those heirloom Christmas decorations from the 40s, 50s and 60s were made with the dangerous “pure snow”.
Scary thought huh ? Ignorance was bliss. Today we know that there is a dangerous link between asbestos exposure and mesothelioma cancer.
So take great care if you are a collector of retro vintage Christmas decorations. They just may contain the deadly substance.
