WHAT IS A 50s Retro SWING DRESS
HISTORY OF THE SWING DRESS
With a fitted bodice, cinched waist and a flared skirt. Swing dresses were a popular dress style in the 50s. Usually worn with a petticoat to accentuate the flare, these voluminous twirling dresses were often worn to high school dances.
A teenage girl of the day would wear her 50s swing dress with saddle shoes or penny loafers and bobby socks.
Dances were held in gymnasiums with polished wood floors and students were required to remove their shoes and dance in their bobby socks, hence the name "sock hop"
When one visualizes the 1950's, the scene usually involves sock hops, drive in movies, diners, milk shakes, jukeboxes, cats eye glasses, petticoats and a 50s swing dress.
50s SWING DRESS STILL FASHIONABLE TODAY
Today this style dress still remains popular. A fancy swing dress paired with a shrug and heels is a classic choice for a special occasion.
Choose a comfortable swing style sundress to frolic around the beach on a hot summer day.
